Breakdown cover is an add-on to your insurance policy. Temporary breakdown cover gives you additional coverage if your car or van breaks down whilst you’re driving it on your Cuvva policy.

How to add breakdown cover

It’s quick and easy to add breakdown cover when you’re buying a new policy in the app:

  1. Enter the registration of the vehicle you’d like to insure to get a quote

  2. Check the quote details are correct, including the registration, start time and policy length

  3. Turn on the switch next to ‘Breakdown cover’

  4. Check your policy documents to see what is and isn’t covered

  5. Pay, and your cover will start instantly

Keep in mind, you can only add breakdown cover to policies that start right away. It isn’t possible to add them to book-ahead policies.

And if you extend your policy, you’ll also extend your breakdown cover. If you don’t have breakdown cover included from the start, you won’t be able to add it when you extend.

What’s included (and not included)

✅ Our breakdown cover includes:

  • Roadside assistance in the UK

  • Local and nationwide recovery to a garage or your home

  • Alternative travel (up to £250)

  • Emergency overnight accommodation (up to £75 per person, or £150 if you’re travelling alone)

  • Business use

❌ There’s a few things that aren’t covered by our breakdown cover such as:

  • Home start

  • A breakdown less than 1 mile away from your home address or policy start location

  • Repeated faults within 28 days of a previous Cuvva breakdown claim

  • Breakdown caused by poor maintenance or if your vehicle isn’t roadworthy

  • Callouts or breakdowns in the EU

Just so you know: for policies starting from 31 December 2024, breakdown cover will work a little differently. If a roadside fix isn’t possible, they’ll tow you to a nearby garage or arrange recovery of your vehicle up to 75 miles distance.

Check the policy documents before you pay for full details of what is and isn’t covered.

What to do if you break down

You can report a breakdown by checking your policy documents from the home screen on the app:

  1. Tap on the 'Trips' tab.

  2. Select ‘Tell us your vehicle has broken down’

  3. Press ‘Call breakdown line’ and that will take you through to the correct team
