We can’t insure international licence holders yet

At the moment, we can only insure drivers with licences issued in England, Scotland and Wales.

When you sign up to Cuvva and scan your licence, the app pulls your licence details from the DVLA’s MyLicence portal. It’s a GB-only service, so we can’t do this for international licences yet.

Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man also use different licencing authorities that don’t allow drivers (or insurers) access to these licence details online.

We’d like to insure non-GB licence holders in the near future - but it looks like we’ll have to wait for other licencing agencies to start providing online access to their licence data.

Just so you know, this doesn’t mean you have to be a British citizen to use Cuvva. We can cover foreign nationals too — as long as you have a GB licence, and have been a UK resident for at least a year.

Imported cars

We can’t insure most imported cars.

Imported cars are registered differently to UK cars and our vehicle data provider doesn’t hold enough information for us to quote most of them.

This may be something that changes in the future, but in the meantime you may need specialist imported car insurance.

Happy driving 🚗
