You can use Cuvva if you have:
A GB DVLA licence issued in England, Scotland or Wales
A French or German driving licence
When you sign up to Cuvva and scan your licence, the app pulls your licence details from the DVLA’s MyLicence portal. It’s a GB-only service, so we can’t do this for all international licences yet.
But you can use Cuvva if you have a French or German licence, and we do hope to add more EU licences soon. Just fyi: there are some policy restrictions depending on your licence. For example, French or German licence holders can buy policies up to 7 days in length, while GB licence holders can buy policies up to 28 days in length.
Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man use different licencing authorities that don’t allow drivers (or insurers) access to these licence details online.
We’d like to insure even more non-GB licence holders in the near future - but it looks like we’ll have to wait for other licencing agencies to start providing online access to their licence data.
Just so you know, this doesn’t mean you have to be a British citizen to use Cuvva. We can cover foreign nationals too — as long as you have one of the approved licences outlined above.
Imported cars
We can’t insure most imported cars.
Imported cars are registered differently to UK cars and our vehicle data provider doesn’t hold enough information for us to quote most of them.
This may be something that changes in the future, but in the meantime you may need specialist imported car insurance.
