If you’re driving with temporary car insurance, you might be asked by the police to show proof of cover.
Here’s what to do and what to expect.
If you’re stopped by the police
If you’re asked to prove you’re insured, you can:
Show your policy documents - you can find them in the app or your email
These are your official proof of insurance. If you can’t access them, our support team can send them to you while your policy is active.
Why you might not show on the MID yet
The police may also check the Motor Insurance Database (MID).
We send your details to the MID quickly, but it can take up to 24 hours to appear. This isn't up to us unfortunately - it's depends on how quickly things process at the other end.
If you’ve just bought a policy:
You might not show on the MID yet
But you are still fully insured
Extra ways to prove you’re covered
If needed, you can:
Ask the officer to check the MID
Ask them to contact us at support@cuvva.com
What the MID is
The MID is a central database that shows which vehicles are insured in the UK.
It’s used by the police and other authorities to check insurance status.
A quick note on insurance laws
By law, vehicles must be insured at all times unless declared off the road.
This is known as Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE).
Cuvva covers you while your policy is active, so it’s important to avoid gaps between policies if the car is being used.
If you have any questions, just search the help centre for a quick answer or reach out to our customer support team. Happy driving!
