You can use Cuvva to insure most UK-registered cars and vans, as long as it's in insurance group 40 or lower, and valued at less than £40,000.

But there are some exceptions, and some other types of vehicle that we can't cover yet.

Just so you know, the rules can be a bit different for pay-monthly insurance.

We can't insure Modified Vehicles

We consider a modification to be ‘anything that’s been changed on the vehicle since leaving the factory’.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Badges (such as sport/performance badging on non-sport vehicles)

  • Body kits

  • Bonnet-based air intakes & vents

  • Bull bars

  • Bumpers

  • Camper vans/motorhome conversions

  • Debadging

  • Grilles (such as changing the grilles for aftermarket versions, or sport versions on non-sport vehicles)

  • Lights (such as roof lights on vans, spotlights or LED bar lights)

  • Paint work (such as changing the colour without registering it with the DVLA)

  • Refrigeration/refrigerated vehicles

  • Spoilers

  • Stickers & decals (this doesn’t include commercial stickers/signwriting on vans)

  • Stripes

  • Wraps (such as vinyl, matte, chrome wraps)

  • Winch and other off-roading equipment

If you’re ever in doubt, ask yourself ‘was it added after the vehicle left the factory?’.

We can usually cover cars that are already insured

You can use Cuvva on a vehicle that's already covered by another insurer, but there are a few exceptions.

If your vehicle is:

  • Covered by a fleet policy

  • Owned by a hire car company

  • A courtesy car

We sadly can't insure it.

Other Vehicle Types

We don't insure motorbikes, scooters, or quad bikes.


We can only cover vehicles with a valid MOT. You can use our free car checker to find out if your MOT is up to date.

Check before you drive

Before you buy a policy, make sure that your vehicle meets these requirements.

If you use Cuvva on a vehicle which shouldn't have been insured with us, we might not be able to cover you again. And if you were involved in an accident, our underwriter wouldn't pay out any claims.

So if you're not sure, just contact our customer support team before you pay. They're on hand every day of the year between 6am and 1am, with an average response time of 1 minute.
