Declare your claims

Before you buy your first car insurance policy with Cuvva, the app will ask you to declare any incidents that you were involved in within the past 5 years.

What counts as an incident

Car accidents, claims, or any other event that you'd normally tell your insurer about.

This also includes:

  • Windscreen or glass claims

  • Theft of vehicle or contents

  • Vandalism and vehicle fires

  • Third party injury claims

Incidents that you should declare

All of the above.

There are some important things to remember when adding your incidents in the app:

Fault Status:

You should still declare accidents or claims that were not your fault. If it's an open claim, you should declare a 'joint-fault' incident.

If the fault status changes later on, just tell our Customer Support team.

Claim Status:

If you reported an accident or claim to your insurer, you should tell us about it - even if you didn't make a claim in the end.

Driver or Policyholder:

You should declare any incident that you were involved in, whether you were the driver, or if you made an injury claim as a passenger.

You'll also need to tell us about incidents involving named drivers on your insurance policy - even if you weren't in the car at the time.

Motorbike Claims:

Don't forget to add any accidents or claims that occurred on a motorbike, or any other on-road vehicle.

You don't need to declare points or convictions

You don't need to tell us about:

  • Previous driving bans, licence endorsements, or points

  • Speeding fines

When you sign up to Cuvva and add your licence, the app gets those details straight from the DVLA database. So if you can get a quote in the app, that means we can cover you!

How to declare your past incidents

If you're using Cuvva for the first time, the app will ask you about your previous incidents when you make your account. Be sure to enter all of your incidents at that stage, to prevent delays down the line.

If you already have a Cuvva account, you can add new incidents in the app. Just go to Profile → Edit Account → Incidents.

If you don't declare your incidents, we may not be able to insure you

When you try to pay for your first policy, the app will check your incidents against the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) database.

If there are any missing incidents, you'll need to chat to customer support to add those incidents for you. This normally only takes a few minutes - but your quoted prices could change.

And depending on the nature of the incidents that you missed out, there's a chance that we won't be able to insure you at all.

So if you have any doubts around accidents or claims, it's best to chat to customer support before buying a policy.

Sadly, if you are under the age of 21 and have an 'at-fault' or 'joint-fault' incident, we can't offer you insurance.

Once you're over 21, this shouldn't be a problem. 😊

You will also not be able to purchase a policy with us if:

  • you have 3 or more non-glass incidents, regardless of fault

  • you have 4 or more glass incidents, regardless of fault

  • your licence is denied

  • you have too many points
