How to update the number plate (also known as registration plate, or reg) of the vehicle

Got a new number plate for your car? No problem. Here's how it works πŸ‘‡

Tell the DVLA

We currently rely on DVLA data to insure your vehicle. In order to change the number plates on your vehicle, you must first register the new plates with the DVLA. They'll send you a confirmation email, and their database will update soon after. Then you'll be able to buy a new Cuvva policy as usual.

What if the database hasn't updated yet?

You can still buy a new Cuvva policy on your new plates while you're waiting for the DVLA database to update - but first, we'll need to update your plates manually on our system. To do this, just show us your V5C logbook (with the new plates) or the eV948 certificate that was attached to the DVLA confirmation email. Just hop in a chat with our tireless customer support team.

Can you switch plates midway through a Cuvva policy?

If you switch your plates midway through a Cuvva policy, we cannot transfer the insurance to the new plates even though it’s the same vehicle. In this case you would need to take out a new insurance policy on the new plates.

Any questions? Our customer support team are on hand 365 days a year, from 9am to 9pm. Just drop them a message in the app or email support@cuvva.com.

Happy driving πŸš—Β
