Temporary car insurance and licence points

Having points on your licence isn’t always a problem, and we often can insure drivers who have had convictions in the past.

But we can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to cover you. Points can sometimes stop you from getting a quote - but it depends on a lot of other factors too.

The best way to find out if we can cover you is by trying to get a quote.

You don’t have to declare your points in the app

You don’t have to tell us about your licence points when you join Cuvva - we get that information from the DVLA.

So, if you’ve signed up and you can get a quote in the app, that means we can cover you!

Points may increase the price

If the price of your car insurance goes up after a conviction, it could be due to your licence points.

But we look at a lot of things when you get a quote. So your price could have gone up for another reason, such as your location, or the vehicle you’re insuring.

We won’t be able to cover you immediately after a driving ban

If you’ve just got your licence back after a suspension, it might take a few weeks for you to be able to try and get a quote again.

That’s because it usually takes a few weeks for the DVLA to update us with your new licence details.

Once they’ve done that, you’ll be able to find out if we can cover you by trying to get a quote.

Also, we can't insure drivers with unspent non-motoring convictions.

Customer support

Any questions? Our customer support team are on hand 365 days a year, from 9am to 9pm. Just drop them a message in the app or email support@cuvva.com.

But it's the app that works out who we can cover, and our team can’t access customer licence details. So we won’t be able to confirm whether your quote has been impacted by points or convictions.

Happy driving 🚗
